SPECIAL INTERVENTIONISTS IN CHILDCARE AND EDUCATION SERVICE

Border SPICES Grant is a Department of Education-OSEP funded personnel training grant         (H325K150411.4.1.6) to increase numbers of highly qualified birth to 8 personnel, targeting the recruitment and preparation of bilingual early childhood special educators to meet the needs of young children with bilingual special needs. The grant program supports participants in acquiring an M. Ed. Degree in Early Childhood Special Education with free tuition and fees and a participation-based stipend. It offers professional development opportunities and promotes participants’ capacities in evidence-based practice through supervised field experiences. The grant project goals include: recruitment and retention of qualified scholars, professional-standard-aligned evidence-based instructional practices, professional-standard-aligned field experiences, and establishing a community of practice. Cohort 1 of 15 scholars graduated in May, 2017 and the current cohort of 21 will graduate in summer, 2019.
